A Targeted Reading Intervention
The Parallel Universe is a reading intervention for students in grades 4 and up who haven’t mastered foundational reading skills. Forty-one lessons provide a hybrid of video-based and teacher-directed instruction. Video lessons are narrated by a “cool dude.” Explicit instruction is delivered by nationally recognized reading specialist and author Marilyn Sprick. Throughout lessons, a teacher or tutor works with students to achieve mastery of skills.
Lessons are scientifically based, following guidelines from research, with compelling narrative and informational content. The Parallel Universe is a motivating and effective curriculum, not a series of motivational activities. Students become stronger readers when The Parallel Universe is used with fidelity.
Emphasis: Word Study, Vocabulary, Fluency, Comprehension
Use: Lessons can be delivered by teachers, paraprofessionals, tutors, or parents.
